I think because of a lot of competitions, big organizations preferred someone who has understanding of work, place or understanding of required roles and responsibilities. Nowadays most of the interns get a full time position after completing their internships which is another opportunity put you step into the industry and get a secure job, just qualification is not enough, most of the organization wants to hire an experienced person because they don't want to spend time or money to train you from the scratch.

It has just become the rule of thumb in the job industry. You really have to build the experience momentarily. But it doesn't mean you won't be a lucky one and land on a good job on your first attempt. But its always good to try different environments and working conditions, before settling on the most appropriate/fitting one for you.
