Is it okay to call the mother of your child/children your girlfriend?

I can't seem to wrap my head over the idea of some men calling the mother of their child/children their girlfriends, which begs another question, why have a child/children plus live together and not married? Is it trying to shy away from commitment or something else?

Of course yes, she is my [girl]friend. Unfortunately, the word girlfriend has a convoluted meaning because of its common use to refer to a relationship rather than a person. A girlfriend si just a friend of gender=girl! And she certainly is. :-) I know its easier said!

Can you call the mother of your child your girlfriend in front of your child?

Some people believe marriage is an old tradition that no longer is needed. I would love to get married to that special someone one day, but I don't think it's something most people care to do these days. I myself would be fine meeting someone who wants to just settle down and not get married.

And if we have kids, I'll just call her my old lady or something like that. That's what my dad calls my mom, but they are married. More people are skipping marriage these days, and I see no problem with that if you want to take that route.

It certainly makes things easier if you break up, as there's no worry about having to go through the divorce process.

The concept of having children prior to marriage is not something I have ever agreed with but it happens and it is better to at least be in some form of committed relationship than none at all with the other parent. I know for a lot of people these days, having children just happens. I would prefer if people at the very least saved sex for only serious relationships but I know that will never be the norm again.
