You can tell them straight up without being rude, but ultimately, it's up to them to figure things out for themselves. You can be there for them in your own way. If they're draining your mental and emotional energy, then you need to take time off from this particular friendship. Eventually, they'll have to see things through from their end and handle it from there by themselves.

I agree with Pritika. As someone on the outside, you have an objective view of the situation but your friend does not. The most you can do it let them know what you think and then let them decide. It is difficult to see how bad the situation is when you've been sitting in it for a long time and you forcing your friend to see that will probably only make them push back. Don't drain yourself trying to change your friends mind, this is emotional labor they need to do themselves. The best thing to do is to be there for them.
