How bad was the outage for Facebook and Instagram?

How bad was the outage for Facebook and Instagram? Yesterday Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp went down for half a day pretty much. The Facebook team said it was something on their end that wasn't done properly, some corrupt error on their end or something.

I heard that Facebook lost over $60 million in cash due to the outage. But, that's just a small dent in their pay.

But, this also came soon after the whistleblower story on 60 minutes. You can watch the interview on that below.

While we all sat twiddling our thumbs, wondering how we can possibly interact with friends, family, and people we haven't seen since school, engineers behind Facebook’s servers were in crisis. So, what really happened?

The information we currently have is a cumulative result of leaks from people claiming to be "insiders’.

Honestly, i didn't even realize there was an outage. But am glad the event has made many people realize the negative effect of social medial. I have just read the long post by Mark Zuckerberg trying to explain the events that led to the outage and the message to the Facebook employees and users. It clearly brings out the underlying issues of social medial.

I am not on the platform but I was cheering the outage. I hate how that platform has made people so selfish, evil, and toxic. I wish all the major social platforms like Facebook, Twitter, TikTik, Instagram, etc. would just be shut down for good or at least for a while so people can heal and be away from the toxicity these platforms breed. So much respect for the woman who came out against Facebook. It is a HUGE risk being a whistleblower against big tech or big pharma these days.
