According to data from Johns Hopkins CSSE, there were 49,522 new cases and 937 deaths in the U.S yesterday. I'm honestly at a huge loss as to what's going on?

There are two angles to this; so please bear with me if one of these angles is nerve-racking. The truth is, the citizens of America are divided on the reliability of the data given.

According to The Hill, Republicans believe the official figure of deaths is far less than what's reported. In the same vein, Democrats believe the reports are understated, and that the numbers are far bigger than what is officially reported.

So what is the problem?

The problem starts with the use of 'probable death' in calculating the number of Coronavirus related deaths. This means that any death arising from coronavirus symptoms that are shared with similar illnesses like pneumonia is reported as a corona-death. In fact, many health officials have questioned this method of counting, as it is a decades-old method.

What does it mean?

It means there will always be uncertainty about the official numbers of the coronavirus death toll. Frankly speaking, many Americans do not bother enough, because they do not trust the media, which is bias in itself.

Eventually, every information released to the American public is questioned on political terms. The sting is therefore taken out of the coronavirus pandemic.

In a nutshell: these numbers may or may not be inflated. And frankly, why should anyone in the country care when the fate of the US presidency is on the line?

The unfortunate truth, from what I can see, is that the President didn't take the warnings seriously enough. He should have closed borders sooner, started a lockdown in the US. But, we ended up waiting too long and in turn, it caused the infection to easily rise in the US. Before you know it, more and more people are infected with it.

The main reason this is getting worse in the US, is because people aren't taking it seriously. People not wearing a mask, people going to huge events with many people present, many not even wearing masks.

People continue to go out to mass gatherings, saying they will never get it, or saying kids can't get it, etc. And then weeks later you hear a news report about that same person coming down with Covid-19. I don't understand how people can be so dumb. I'm sorry if I offend anyone, but I'm tired of people not taking this pandemic seriously. The US has the most deaths for a reason, and it's our incompetence to listen to rules.

Anyone can get this virus. The US is in this boat right now, because people don't seem to fully understand how dangerous this virus is. We need to take it seriously, otherwise more and more people are going to die from this virus.

I hate to say it but all of this has been used for politics and we are being told lies. We just don't know who to believe. I for one don't believe the numbers are that high. I don't know a single person in my area who has had it. Not a single one. I have a family member who is a nurse as well and she reported that there were only 20 cases of it in the entire hospital and it was when she was not working. None of it adds up or makes any sense.

I just say be smart, wash your hands and take care of your health. You should be doing this anyways. Whether they are lying or not, we should all be taking better care of our bodies.

Today, despite more than 11,000 cases of Covid-19 and 200 deaths in Kenya, there are those who still say that the virus does not exist - from the gentleman who cleaned my vehicle last week insisting that it is the biggest lie of our time to fellow journalists saying that it is nothing more than a prolonged flu.Indeed, a well-known motivational speaker and Pastor Robert Burale was recently accused of faking his Covid-19 positive status despite images showing that he was in a Nairobi hospital.

That's sad indeed but not really surprising as most people in North America do not want to follow the guidelines that try to help us.

This is terribly sad. The US Needs to get its act together for the sake of its own people. Unfortunately its people are part of the reason they're in this position.

It is quite unfortunate. Yes, there are lots of controversy theorems around the numbers. But i think that should worry the common citizen less. The controversies are only fodder for the politicians.

What scares me much is, this virus seems to be here to stay, and if this is the rate it will be killing people globally, then there is a need for urgent intervention. It is sad that countries are still fighting for supremacy even during the pandemic. Worse still is how countries all over the world are now politicizing the pandemic.

Am afraid the second wave is coming, and it won't be a good one!
