The only situation that comes to me is rescuing a sibling or siblings from being chastised by our or their parents. Many times, I've taken responsibility as the elder to let them have some fun and bore the brunt of our elder's rants when I had no reason to. It's not that bad as I do what I can to let my siblings do their thing.

In terms of skills, yes. I have done this a number of times. A friend of mine who wanted to get better at drawing had gotten discouraged by seeing other people do better. I know I can draw well but I purposely didn't draw as well as I normally do to make her feel better about her skill level. This was when we were in high school. Just one example I can think of off the top of my head.
