Do you eat food that is past its expiration date if it still smells and looks good?

Yes. It depends on the food and how long it's been past its date. Stuff like milk or bread which gets bad easily is avoided generally; the rest, not so much.

It completely depends on what the product is, if it is meat-based don't risk it. However, if it is something plant-based or if it's produce you can check the appearance and then take your chances.

Depends on the food and beverage. I know with milk, as long as it's cold, it can last for days or even a week or more after the due date. Some other foods are known to be fine after a few days to a week. Just keep smelling the food and keeping an eye out for any mold.

Anything to do with meat, will degrade much more faster, so you'd want to eat that up faster.

I got based on the type of product it is. Dairy will always smell off if it has gone bad. So the smell test is one I use every time. I have had to throw out milk, cheese, etc. before the expiration date. When it comes to eggs, those have more time than stated on the carton, usually a week to 10 days out. The stuff you need to be careful with is processed items that will look and smell fine but can be spoiled and you won't know it until your stomach lets you know.
